Early Bird!!! [2nd and 3rd of Sept]

Right, so, I'm in my third year at Exeter University doing French and Spanish - which most of you reading this will know by now - having to do a year abroad. As I lived in France for a "while", and always having wanted to visit Canada, what better opportunity to do so than by coming here to teach some English!?

You'll probably be thinking "Canada...teaching English? You crazy bitch?" - Of course not! I'm in the lovely province of Quebec; Amqui to be exact (look it up because even the people living in good ol' QC don't know where it is!) and 99.9% of these people don't even know what "poo" or "pee" means.

Anyhoo - I landed in Montréal Airport on the 2nd of September around 8.15 pm local time (meaning 1.15 am Landaaan time - ouch!), went through customs, they made sure I wasn't a bomber who'd waited to LAND to actually set myself off or try to bring "fresh fruit and veg" into their lovely country. The guy at the customs I don't think liked me very much as he sent me to the wrong place to get my visa checked out - where I waited half an hour to be seen and then told I had to go back upstairs [bear in mind it was about 2 am by this time for me!]. After all that kurfuffle at the airport, I finally arrived to my hotel room around 10.45 local time (you do the math!), and not only was I greeted by the nicest clerks I had ever met - my bed was the size of a small California King Bed (look it up) !!! Best night's sleep I have EVER had in my LIFE.

Being the first to arrive has both it's advantages and disadvantages.

Advantage:

You get to discover the city for yourself not having to follow others around like sheep.
Disadvantage:
When everyone else arrives, they think you know the city like the back of your hand as it is no longer a foreign land - Became the Leader (shit..)

Advantage:

Have lots of ideas you will pitch to everyone else so it's not so expensive for you when they get here and want to do the same thing.
Disadvantage:
They generally don't want to do the same thing as you or still consider it too expensive even if it's split by 5!!!

Advantage:

You get to go back to the hotel and chill whenever you like - maybe go for a swim and not worry about leaving anyone behind.
Disadvantage:
When you get lost as you're BY YOURSELF and even though you have been told you have a good sense of direction, realise you're going the opposite way of the desired destination!

Ok, not gonna go on forever about being alone in the city for the first day but here are a few snaps I took along the way (camera died, feet hurt and was too hot - hence why I went back):

China Town.

Amazing mural graffiti - looks even more incredible in real life.
